Information for Criminal Cases

Driver's Safey Course Information

 *Defendant is required to pay fee of $144.00 to cover Court and administrative costs. 

 *Defendant must enter a guilty or no contest plea.

 *Defendant cannot have had a Driver's Safety Course in the past 12 months.

 *Defendant MUST have a valid Texas Driver's License

 *Defendant cannot have a Commerical Driver's License (nor can they be in the process of obtaining one).

 *Defendant cannot have been going 25 MPH over the posted speed limit (not greater than 95).

 *Defendant MUST have valid insurance that shows them as a driver.

 *Defendant must submit a signed and notarized Affidavit (provided by the court).

 *Defendant must submit a Certified Driving Record. Link provided on lefthand side.

 *Defendant must submit a certificate of completion for Texas Certified Driver's Safety Course within the allotted time frame

 *Defendant will not be allowed to take a course for dismissal if the offense happened in a school zone, construction zone (with or without workers present), or if there was an end result of a crash.

 *The court requires court cost and fees paid in full.

Deferred Disposition

 *Defendant is required to pay a fee of $286.00 to cover Court and administrative costs. 

 *Defendant must enter a guilty or no contest plea. 

 *Probation period not to exceed 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, this Court will then obtain a copy of the defendant’s Driving Record, if no charges were filed against you during his probation period of 90 days, the disposition will be a dismissal.

 *Defendant cannot currently have a Commercial Driver’s License or planning to obtain one within the 90-day probation.

 *Defendant must submit a signed and notarized Affidavit (provided by the court).

 *If the defendant has an out of state driver's license and is under the age of 25, the defendant MUST complete a Texas Certified Driver's Safety Course and submit the certificate within the 90-day probation period.

*The court requires court cost and fees paid in full.

Time payment plan

This court allows defendants to be placed on a Time Payment Plan. Defendants are allowed to make payments to the court, after a plea of guilty or no contest has been entered. Plea forms are under the "Forms" toggle below. Defendants may submit their plea either via email to the Clerk, or through postal mail. A Time Payment Fee of $15.00 will be added to each violation after 30 days. 

***Time Payment plans are not offered if taking a Driver Safety Course or requesting Deferred Disposition***

Acceptable forms of payment are Money order, cashier's check (made payable to Sherman County), Visa, or MasterCard. Convenience fee will apply. 

Not guilty Plea

 *Defendants have a right to enter a plea of not guilty.

 *It is the defendant's responsibility to contact the court with any address changes.
